PALEO-ENVIRONMENTS
Adequate grounding in many historical or archaeological studies depends upon establishing a sense of place. In history, it provides a context through which many historical events can be better understood. In archaeology, the characteristics of an environment may critically influence the strategies used for excavation, while knowing what the landscape, plant and animal communities, and climate were like at the time of site occupation is essential if one is to interpret the cultural remains that were left behind centuries before. These papers address such issues.
