In 2013, I put a hold on my life as a FEMA Environmental Advisor to join my son, Cameron, on a three-month whirlwind trip by van across the United States to California. From there, we boarded a plane for the long-haul to New Zealand, where we took four months to explore the fabulous scenery and met outstanding hosts throughout the North and South Islands as we participated in the international Workaway program. I kept a travel log with photos during the entire trip, which began on September 20, 2013.
Please, join in the fun as Cameron and I camped and visited numerous sites across the United States and as we navigated our way from the point where the Tasman Sea collides with the Pacific Ocean at the northern tip of the North Island to active glaciers on the South Island of New Zealand. Over the course of 232 days, we travelled about 20,000 miles. We met stellar people along the way, had no serious mishaps or illnesses, and collected a mountain of memories that we can enjoy for the rest of our lives. Although enjoying her life of not having to look after two guys, Marie met us with open arms when we arrived back in Vermont on May 11, 2014.
